As I understand, the Quantum component provides a mechanism to introduce a 'filter' (filter = firewalls, ids, ips, av) into the traffic chain so that all traffic flowing on that link may be protected via that service.

However, I did not find anything that allows creation of an anti-virus service for vm's that can be substituted in place of endpoint security products being installed on each vm. I am looking at it from the point of view of the vShield Endpoint feature in VMWare that allows introspection of vm filesystem via its EPSEC APIs. Is there something similar in OpenStack? If not (maybe due to reasons of complexity?), is there a way to achieve similar functionality?

Or, to ask the same question in another manner - Is it possible to avail of agentless anti virus / anti malware protection like in case vShield? Thanks, Sushrut.

if you use VIO (vmware integrated openstack) with NSX (SDN), you could use the third party feature (anti virus software) of NSX to quarantine infected VMs; this third party will create a VM appliance on every esxi who inspect the traffic.
