I had to reinstall one of the compute nodes which also ran Cinder . Afterwards I noticed that I have one volume which is still in use but hosted by old deleted node ! This volume is attached , mounted and I'm capable to write there .

I scanned all my existing cinder hosts but didn't find a volume with its ID .

Can someone explain me how it's possible ?

Have you deleted everything including data i.e volumes and instances. or just re-installed the compute and volume packages. The volumes and instances metadata exist in database, which is safe in your case. Also, If you have not deleted the data then it can be reused, as i can see in your case. As told by you u can access the cinder volume then it must be exist in your cinder node.

I think because of database entry you are getting that.

You can delete it.

cinder reset-state volume-id Cinder delete volume-id
