We have recently added a section about upgrades and fully documented grizzly to havana upgrades at http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/opens... .
OpenStack needs warm upgrade support! And we have to admit, that many current OpenStack implementations which run on Grizzly have serious problems to upgrade and this will be hopefully addressed in the release after Icehouse by some OpenStack Distros such as RDO, RHOSP, Juju, etc.
Upgrade docs are generally not written until release time. However, the upgrade process is tested in the CI gate using Grenade [1] which steps through an upgrade of DevStack from stable/grizzly to master. The upgrade-* scripts in Grenade perform the actual work and show what is required to upgrade the DevStack configuration used in the gate tests. Grenade currently includes Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Nova and Swift.
