Why are two NICs required for OpenStack single node installation? [closed]

I have seen it in various tutorials on Openstack installation (e.g. [http://vlabs.cfapps.io/openstack/installation/havana_installation.html] that the machine on which OpenStack is to be installed should have two physical NICs.

I need to know why is that a requirement? Is it is a strict requirement or there are some alternatives?

Yes, it will be better. One will be used for management and other will be used for data network. For multinode setup 3 NICs the third one for neutron (if neutron server in running on separate node).

As far as I understand, management network is used for establishing connectivity between OpenStack nodes in case of multi-node installation. What is a management network used for in case of single-node installation of OpenStack?

Public Network: (br-ex can be eth0)

This network is used by communication between VM and the external network, and client access to VM via Floating IP.

Private Network: (br-int can be eth1)

This network is used by communication between SDN or neutron service and OVS, each OpenStack components.

In my experience, you can still have one NIC for single node setup but it will be difficult for connecting the VMs from internet. If you don't want your VMs running on openstack to get connected from outside then you can go with 1 NIC. But it not a best practice.
