OpenStack is installed in group of servers. How do we know what version of OpenStack is installed (Havana or IceHouse etc)? Will it be in some file?

Is it logical to talk about which version of openstack is installed? Because - I am also assuming that we can use few components from one release and other components from different release and deploy a openstack setup.

Also, let me know, is it possible to know the version name through REST API?

on openstack node cli:

dpkg -l | grep nova-common

lets say the following output

ii nova-common 1:2014.2.1-0ubuntu1~cloud0 all OpenStack Compute - common files

check for the above release version i.e 2014.2.1 in the following link:

https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Releases

I can see that above version is Juno

Does all the services be updated to say Juno release, to be called as Juno release openstack. Does this mean, that multiple services can work with different openstack releases?

Thanks, Harishankar
