I want to check database tables for nova (overcloud) for some development work. But can't find the MySQL password. I am using HP Helion Community Edition 1.3.0.

Where can I find the MySQL password for Helion overcloud?

SQL passwords are generated. You can have a look at respective conf file. e.g seed keystone mysql password can be found at /etc/keystone/keystone.conf file

If you want root password, check the password file which is part of distribution. There will be a password file for overcloud and undercloud

I could find the keystone password from the file you have mentioned. But, there is no MySQL password entry in tripleo-overcloud-passwords or tripleo-undercloud-passwords file. Where the root password can be found?

In conf file there is a section for sql connection, which will have sql password.

connection = mysql:// <username>:<password>@localhost/keystone

This is true for all the services. You can check nova's password in nova.conf

I thought you will have root password in password file, Can you do grep -i mysql in the password file?

I did a grep on whole triplo directory for "mysql", as you mentioned. But, no occurrences has listed root password. There are entries like

mysql:// <username>:<password>@localhost/<service name>

for each OpenStack service. All passwords for service databases are visible but, not the root.

Can you check one more thing?

Login to seed and check there
$ssh root@
$cd /root/tripleo
$ // There should be a password file here and most probably the root password will be there

I checked tripleo-overcloud-passwords and tripleo-undercloud-passwords file present in /root/triplo of seed machine, it does not have any root password.

Which other file I can check?
