Following this Icehouse install manual, I am not able to successfully perform the ping tests in the "Verify connectivity" section. Actually, it seems some info is missing such as how the controller / compute nodes use the network node to connect to the Internet, at this stage with the corresponding configuration.

Hi Ophir, that section of the installation guide is only to verify basic connectivity between Openstack nodes. It basically checks that all interfaces on the various networks (management, external and data) work well.

What you are referring to is described in another section of the guide.

But you first have to solve basic connectivity problems; which step of the "verify connectivity" section fails?

Let's take for example "From the controller node, ping a site on the internet". The controller, as explained, should be configured with only one NIC on the management network. So how can it ping an Internet address? It's gateway is 10.0.0.1 which is not configured anywhere.
