NoVNC special keys

asked 2014-07-23 11:31:21 -0500

I have a Windows VM running on my tenant and I use console to manage it. I have try with a Ubuntu Desktop and I have the same problem. I noticed that when I use the special keys ({,}, @, etc.) they do not work properly

Is there any configuration I need to do?

All special keys work just fine for me. You might be using something like Vimium that is causing those keys to not work on VNC console. Try using a different browser with no plugins.

Thank for your reply. I have not installed Vimium on my brower. My problem is that I have an Italian keyboard (it-IT) and I want to type { and } chars. To write these characters I have to press AltGr+Shift+[ but in console doesn't work.

If you are using Linux on the host machine you can use alt codes. just type alt+0123 and alt+0125 (i think) for the curly braces. On a mac you can use the on screen keyboard to insert those characters.

On Ubuntu use the latest version of noVNC and special keys work! Clone the latest version to /opt:

# cd /opt
# git clone

then modify the /etc/nova/nova.conf with the key:

and restart nova-novncproxy

# service nova-novncproxy restart

Remember to clean you browser history for load new javascript scripts.
