webserver log ? You should check your logs and if all services are running. 500 is normally if anything is wrong with the corresponding services. In this case maybe keystone

The web server logs should be under either /var/log/httpd if using Fedora, or /var/log/apache/ if using Ubuntu. This should help with debugging.

Thanks foexle and jpichon, I am using Ubuntu so that i checked in /var/log/apache2/

root@freeman-MS-7817:~# ls -lrt /var/log/apache2/
access.log               horizon_access.log       horizon_error.log.1
error.log                horizon_access.log.1     horizon_error.log.2.gz
error.log.1              horizon_access.log.2.gz  other_vhosts_access.log
error.log.2.gz           horizon_error.log

I tried to open horizon_error.log by "tail -f horizon_error.log" it give me the result:

[Thu Jul 17 08:50:29.114366 2014] [:error] [pid 11503:tid 3051039552] [remote 10.145.42.22:15543]     __import__(name)

Hi,

open your /opt/stack/horizon/openstack_dashboard/settings.py or local_settings.py

and search the config option 'SECRET_KEY' there is a line

SECRET_KEY = secret_key.generate_or_read_from_file(os.path.join(LOCAL_PATH, '.secret_key_store'))

change it to

SECRET_KEY = <any generated key>

after that restart your webserver and try again.

Cheers Heiko

os@ubuntu:/dev$ cat /etc/apache2/sites-available/horizon.conf

    WSGIScriptAlias / /opt/stack/horizon/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi
    WSGIDaemonProcess horizon user=os group=os processes=3 threads=10 home=/opt/stack/horizon
    WSGIApplicationGroup %{GLOBAL}

    SetEnv APACHE_RUN_USER os
    SetEnv APACHE_RUN_GROUP os
    WSGIProcessGroup horizon

    DocumentRoot /opt/stack/horizon/.blackhole/
    Alias /media /opt/stack/horizon/openstack_dashboard/static

    <Directory />
        Options FollowSymLinks
        AllowOverride None
        Require all granted
    </Directory>

    <Directory /opt/stack/horizon/>
        Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews

        AllowOverride None
        Order allow,deny
        allow from all
        Require all granted
    </Directory>

    ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/horizon_error.log
    LogLevel warn
    CustomLog /var/log/apache2/horizon_access.log combined

In which OS you have installed Devstack, accordingly we can troubleshoot. Also make sure all Openstack services are running.

I installed DevStack in Ubuntu, everything seem ok because after finishing installing I received the result as below:

Horizon is now available at http://10.145.42.22/
Keystone is serving at http://10.145.42.22:5000/v2.0/
Examples on using novaclient command line is in exercise.sh
The default users are: admin and demo
The password: nova
This is your host ip: 10.145.42.22
2014-07-17 01:42:14.451 | stack.sh completed in 364 seconds.

After that I open the link it appear the error in web brower.

The issue I found after installing DevStack from ./stack.sh on Ubuntu 14.04 was with the missing ALLOW_HOSTS entry. The error showed up in the horizon error log, /var/log/apache2/horizon_error.log.

To fix the Internal Server Error 500, edit this file: /opt/stack/horizon/openstack_dashboard/local/local_settings.py

By adding:

ALLOW_HOSTS = ['192.168.1.100'] # The IP address of your DevStack host machine.

Then restart Apache2:

sudo service apache2 restart

I met the same problem after I installed devstack on my Ubuntu 16.06. This solution helped me.

The only correction is this: please use ALLOWED_HOSTS = ... , instead of ALLOW_HOST = ...
