Running ESSEX 2012.1, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

nova-consoleauth nova-volume
nova-network
nova-cert
nova-scheduler
nova-compute

I cannot boot a vm in designated host (followed this guide).

http://docs.openstack.org/essex/openstack-compute/admin/content/specify-host-to-boot-instances-on.html

Tried this and didn't work: nova boot --image 1 --flavor 2 --key_name test --hint force_hosts=server2 my-first-server Tried this and also didn't work: nova boot --image 1 --flavor 1 --availability_zone nova:host my-first-server

What am I missing? Filters? Conf?

Thanks you for help.

What does the *creds* file for that designated host look like?

Once VM booted successfully you can restart any service they shouldn't effect your VM.

Before going to boot a instance you need to check weather the compute node is running or not.

nova boot --image=<image_id> --flavor 1 --availability_zone nova:host my-first-server

will you update your question with nova-compute.log ? it is better to find out the error quickly.
