I had a great cloud running, but some configuration changed and I removed nova-compute. I then attempted to reinstall it, but I'm getting an error I can't solve. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and OpenStack Grizzly. My OpenStack source list is:

deb http://ubuntu-cloud.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise-updates/grizzly main

This is the error:

sudo apt-get install nova-compute

Looks like this problem comes from an outdated sqlite database left behind. It was probably installed by an older version of the nova-common package presumably not coming from the Ubuntu Cloud Archive.

rm /var/lib/nova/nova.sqlite

Hmm. I seem to have solved the issue with the following commands:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge mysql-* nova-* keystone glance-* openstack-* django-* python-keystoneclient libvirt0 libvirt-bin

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install nova-compute

apt-get install nova-compute-kvm Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree

This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies: nova-compute-kvm : Depends: libvirt-bin but it is not going to be installed Depends: python-libvirt but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Just got to your DB and empty the database 1. if you use sqlite use the solution above "rm /var/lib/nova/nova.sqlite" or 2. I use mysql -> log into mysql and delete all tables from nova database

afterwards run migration scripts and all will run smothly or so I thought ;-)
