Hi ,

We use IceHouse setup and noticed that when deploying a number of VMs simultaneously ( 20-30). Some instances do not get thier IPs .Inspecting the /var/lib/neutron/dhcp/here_is_net-id/host I found duplicated IPs entries for different MACs like :

watch "at /var/lib/neutron/dhcp/224af0d4-0d34-434d-9da6-5be41412d56c/host | grep 184" Every 2.0s: cat /var/lib/neutron/dhcp/224af0d4-0d34-434d-9da6-5be41412d56c/host | gre... Mon Jun 23 13:03:30 2014

fa:16:3e:45:11:f2,host-10-56-166-184.iveeas.local,10.56.166.184 fa:16:3e:26:d9:de,host-10-56-166-184.iveeas.local,10.56.166.184

Since a new VM has fa:16:3e:26:d9:de it cannot receive IP .

My guess is follow - since the subnet range has only 60 IPs the /var/lib/neutron/dhcp/here_is_net-id/host is not being updated before new VM launch .

Any ideas how to fix this ?

Are you using Icehouse? If so, did you disable Neutron's notifications to Nova?

Other than that, generally speaking, these sort of things happen when Neutron hits 100% CPU usage. You can consider enabling api_workers and rpc_workers in neutron.conf which should solve that issue.
