I am receiving the following error in scheduler.log when trying to migrate a volume from one backend to another on the same host (all volumes are cinder volumes using lvm): 2014-06-11 16:09:24.474 30911 ERROR cinder.scheduler.manager [req-c5b2d039-a9ad-417f-a60e-3f17f855dc7c f4eb08389e0449059d5e08ba14e7acc1 e6013134bb7e4394954a822e972dc26d - - -] Failed to schedule_migrate_volume_to_host: No valid host was found. cannot place volume 664b68d3-e3e9-4421-a4cb-cf57ad87f67a on openstack.lab.local@lvmdriver-4

This error appears regardless of which backend I choose or whether the volume is attached or not. I am running OpenStack Icehouse. All other volume functions work properly (Creating, deleting, snapping, etc). Any advice on what I should check would be great. Thanks.

I figured out what was causing this issue. It appears that cinder migrate does not work when moving between different volume types, so I had to use cinder retype. The only issue with cinder retype is that volumes cannot be migrated if they are attached to an instance.

Can you please expand on your answer and how "cinder retype" helped?
