I'm not really sure what to ask here. I am having problems with icehouse on 14.04 ubuntu. the icehouse packages are all from the ubuntu repo.

I am finding lots of inconsistencies. With the below config, when I launch an instance of cirros it will get an IP w/ DHCP (yeah!). it can ping the host interface br-ex (e.g. it gets an ip of e.g. 172.16.12, and can ping and So far so good. The host cannot ping it (? i guess that is from the iptables rule

-A neutron-openvswi-s888b5d4b-4 -s -m mac --mac-source FA:16:3E:7D:82:17 -j RETURN

so i guess(?) i must have a floating ip (?). this is an all-in-one setup fwiw. so I did this:

nova-manage floating create --pool=nova --ip-range=
neutron net-create public --router:external=True --shared
neutron subnet-create public --name public --enable_dhcp False --allocation_pool start=,end= --gateway
neutron floatingip-create public

ok, so now i am ostensibly assigned as a floating IP. I can indeed ping from the VM, but the host still cannot ping the VM (boo!).

At this stage I don't know what to do. I have what i think is all the relevant config & show commands below.

if i comment out the vlan,gre,vxlan from the ml_2 type drivers line

type_drivers = local,flat,vlan,gre,vxlan

neutron-server won't load, saying:

ERROR neutron.plugins.ml2.managers [-] No type driver for tenant network_type: flat. Service terminated!

I'm not sure if that matters here, so i have left vlan/gre/vxlan in.

does anyone have any advice here? my server has 1 ethernet interface, with a public IP, and the intent was to have everything run inside it. I would like the VM's to be able to reach the host, and also NAT to the public internet (but directly reaching them is not important).
