I have a Havana Openstack setup with 1 controller / neutron and 40 hypervisors/ nova.

Over a period of time the dashboard becomes unresponsive and the only way to get out of the mess is by restarting the apache webserver.

Is there any configuration that I should change to handle this load.

It must be because of Keystone token.

From your mysql execute 'USE keystone; SELECT count(id) FROM token;'.

If it is more (I can't fixate any value, without knowing the number of users), then you need you check your cronjob entry you made.

(crontab -l -u keystone 2>&1 | grep -q token_flush) || \ echo '@hourly /usr/bin/keystone-manage token_flush >/var/log/keystone/keystone-tokenflush.log 2>&1' \ /var/spool/cron/crontabs/keystone
