Adding new disk to VM

Hi Folks,

I have a question on adding new disk to the VM.

I understand that I can cretae a new Cinder volume and attach that disk to the VM. However, what I would like to do is create a new disk in "/var/lib/nova/instance/<instance-id>" and then attach it to the VM. i.e, create a new disk from my local partition itself and assign it. Is there a way to achieve this? or is this even possible?

Thanks, Vijesh

I have the same question. In the VMware world, this was a fairly obvious process, but with Openstack, the variety of storage options makes it not so clear on how to achieve this without doing a resize of the VM (by creating a new flavor and using nova resize...)

I posted this type of question to #openstack on IRC and was told - "use volumes". You apparently do not create a new disk the way I was thinking about it (from my vmware background). I have used volumes and they seem to work well so far.
