Ok so this turns out to be a check config check config and check config again..

delete config and re enter config.

What I did

delete /etc/swift/account-server/1.conf

then update /etc/swift/account-server.conf to use the port i wanted.

Updated rings to use new port.

did this for account, container and object configs and rings.. all started working again.. was very odd not sure why but assumption is config corruption? or some thing has been update that has been applied.. though hard to pin point this one.
