Memory and disk usage meters from ceilometer

Hey stackers!

I am running openstack on an Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64-bit virtual machine. I am trying to use ceilometer to get the CPU and memory utilization from my compute node on a KVM host which has a few VM's running on it.

However, this is the list of meters I get from ceilometer:

Why am I not getting memory and disk usage meters? I don't see the logs to have any interpretation of this. Here is my ceilometer config file and my nova.conf file.

Hi, I see you get cpu_util on meter-list

referring to http://docs.openstack.org/developer/ceilometer/measurements.html (ceilometer measurements) on Compute (Nova) section ; cpu_util will appear on meter-list if you enable pollster method !! Since I'm new in this domain I'm still reading on their ceilometer documentation

what about the disk IO above, what meters are you expecting? try running nova diagnostic command for your VM

Any progress on this? While I do get memory and disk meters in Ceilometer, I'm not sure how to interpret the timestamps in their samples. For example, after shutting down all the instances, I don't see any new memory samples showing 0MB of memory being used.

Hi, Jobin

Because instance's memory usage is collected through notification event, so you should create an instance first, then you will get memory meters.

@eric: I have two instances running on the host, that is why I am getting the data above. The resource_id pertains to the particular VM.

Do you configure nova.conf to enable instance_usage_audit ? have a look at: http://docs.openstack.org/developer/ceilometer/install/manual.html#installing-the-compute-agent

Yes, I had configured nova.conf while installing ceilometer and they persist now.
