I am having some issues setting up neutron - I have 2 nodes only, controller and network node is on the same computer. Is this a valid config? Or do they absolutely have to be separate?

I lost network connectivity to the controller/network is configured and the bridges were created by openvswitch. Perhaps using the same node for both controller/network is causing it to fail because the GRE tunnel is not valid?

dbaxps answer's is correct, I'm using also an all-in-one controller and network node with 2 compute nodes (using RDO Havana) and its in the meanwhile very stable.

Which distro are you using? How many interfaces do you have? Did you tried to reboot your hosts? What are your log files saying?
