I would like to retrieve usage statistics e.g. cpu utilization . I thought that I could use the Telemetry API http://docs.openstack.org/developer/c... for this purpose. But it is not clear how to use for .e.g.

  GET /v2/meters/{meter_name}

What exactly is the meter_name ?

Is there are more detailed documentation on the Telemetry API ? The only other doc I have found so far is http://docs.openstack.org/developer/c... .

When you run ceilometer meter-list, or call /v2/meters from the API (ie, without any further arguments) you'll get back a list of meters, and one of the fields in those return values is name. That's the name that it's looking for. Note that the name isn't (necessarily) unique, so you get info for anything that matches that name, unless you also provide the resource ID.

The info on ceilometer meter-list and /v2/meters does help. What is not obvious from the documentation is how to pass the resource ID ( query parameter q ). For the latter I found the following which seems useful http://docs.openstack.org/developer/c... .
