I have an openstack environment setup with controller on one machine and Conpute (KVM) on other. The instances which come up are not able to get the ip assigned to them by neutron. I can see the ip assigned to then in nova show but when I login to the instance from console I dont see the ip in ifconfig. If I assign the same ip manually to the instance it is able to reach gateway. Is there some thing I am missing on the instance setup.

I am using OVS. The neutron log files does not show any warning and error. Though I could see the below warning in

   nova compute log: WARNING nova.virt.libvirt.vif [req-fcdeb5fd-54e7-426a-8317-0385cc282528 2d27fcf5974742a3899a1c534c483bfa 1cdeedc6dc964dc9af3eee2e53668c08] Deprecated: The LibvirtHybridOVSBridgeDriver VIF driver is now deprecated and will be removed in the next release. Please use the LibvirtGenericVIFDriver VIF driver, together with a network plugin that reports the 'vif_type' attribute

 WARNING nova.virt.disk.vfs.guestfs [req-fcdeb5fd-54e7-426a-8317-0385cc282528 2d27fcf5974742a3899a1c534c483bfa 1cdeedc6dc964dc9af3eee2e53668c08] Failed to close augeas aug_close: do_aug_close: you must call 'aug-init' first to initialize Augeas

Looks like nova compute is not assigning the fixed ip to the instance interface.Here is the nova boot command I am using:

 nova boot --flavor 2 --image fe629b8e-90ee-4ff0-893d-312f48f1fd35 --nic net-id=52899dc9-4a0c-4206-a97d-746568d8fc0e,v4-fixed-ip=10.4.200.50 --availability-zone nova:kvmserver k1

I am using havana release with flatdhcp network

What do neutron log files say? Is there any error? Which Openstack release are you using and are you following a particular guide? What neutron plugin are you using? Is it OVS?

Please, run on your Controller :-
$ neutron agent-list
$ nova-manage service list

Add a centos or ubuntu image to your infrastructure. Launch the instance, make sure its pulling the right data, then check out /etc/cloud.cfg. The pre-built images are using cloud-init.

Ok, try troubleshooting using this guide.

Is the neutron-dhcp service up & running?

Hi,

Check the connectivity between the bridge on Neutron and compute node. Check the data connectivity. If Data connectivity is not proper you won't able to assign the IP address automatically on the instances.
