I have an instance where apache server is running. Now can i create an image from that instance and save the running state of the apache server??. So that when i create a new instance from that image the apache server should be running.

In your running vm, edit .profile file: mention the services that need to be started along with the vm and necessary environment options. I did this and worked for me. Thanks.

Is there any other way to save the state of the running server to snapshot instead of manually editing the .profile or any other configs??

I have seen this working on professional Hypervisor like ESXi, workstation or virtual box, where you take snapshot of VM and it will save the state too.

Ubuntu/Debian this works: sudo update-rc.d apache2 defaults

on Redhat/Fedora: chkconfig --add httpd
