Hi I am using virt v2v tool provided by redhat, and i am able to convert VM and migrate over to openstack. Further challenge i see is, "nova list --all-tenants" will not show vm and VM off course is not under any project. I can see VM under Virt manager, on compute node. But I dont see see a way of making VM entry in mySQL or otherwise. Any ideas? or any other thoughts on migrating VM ?

If I correctly understand your question, you simply converted an ESXi VM to KVM VM, but Openstack will not be aware of it unless you specifically do this task inside Openstack.

To solve your problem you could either:

  • hack the Openstack DB in order to let it view the instance (I have never done it before, I think it could be a very tedious and unsecure procedure)

  • save the newly created KVM VM's disk to glance and then start a new VM from that image.

Option 2 has to be selected and verified. My major concern is cloud-init
