Problem: On Horizon dashboard, I stuck with instance creation and tried doing "Terminate" and it stuck there...

I tried doing instance listing with CLI but dont get instance list with nova list.. I get list with "sudo nova-manage vm list HOSTNAME".

But not able to delete the instance and it is displayed on Horizon as spawning or deleting..!

any hint to get out of this state?

If you are the "admin" you can list all instances by doing:

nova list --all-tenants

nova reset-state --active {instance-id}

You'll definitely want to look at the /var/log/nova/compute.log to see what's causing issues with the delete.

Noop... nova list --all-tenants did not complete. I waited for about 2-3 min to get the response.... then ctrl+C gave me as below....

^CTraceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/nova", line 10, in <module> sys.exit(main()) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/novaclient/shell.py", line 737, in main OpenStackComputeShell().main(map(strutils.safe_decode, sys.argv[1:])) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/novaclient/shell.py", line 673, in main args.func(self.cs, args) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/novaclient/v1_1/shell.py", line 1129, in do_list servers = cs.servers.list(search_opts=search_opts) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/novaclient/v1_1/servers.py", line 404, in list return self._list("/servers%s%s" % (detail, query_string), "servers") ......................and some more similar text ......................

do share any other alternative...to get rid of this error...

Would run :-
[root@dallas1 ~(keystone_admin)]$ openstack-status
just to understand what's going on

That's a different issue. You need to look at the logs in /var/log/nova on the Controller and Compute nodes to look for errors regarding the deletion of the instance. You should also look at /var/log/nova/api.log to see what's causing issues with the api.

Previously, I tried removing the instance causing the issue and it was stuck there showing as "Deleting..." and I left it as is to allow system to take time to delete... after about a week, I check the status on HORIZON..and it was same as before.. showing as deleting and no update.

NOW today, I removed all the instances and in few seconds all instances were gone.. SOUNDS... working for me.. BUT...

If I check page on "Project Tab", it still shows 1 Instance with 1 CPU.... where as under "Admin Tab", there is none...

is it a synch problem or? something else?
