Instances: change vlan assignment on the fly

asked 2014-03-26 19:54:35 -0600

I'd like to have is being able to change the VLAN of a running instance without killing it.

Is it possible to change the vlan assignment of an instance without destroying/rebooting it ? Either from cmdline or horizon?

Here's the context : I'm doing lots of tests with HW based IPS sensors and I have found a way to virtually "re-plug" (soft cables) VMs to pre-defined network paths (each IPS sensors being assigned a network path). To do that I use VLANs and trunking ( each network path is allowed one VLAN). Currently I use ESXi/cisco switches to do this and I edit the NIC settings of the VM in vsphere. For a given VM, if I need to pass traffic through a specific sensor, I change the NIC settings to the VLAN matching the sensor and traffic from VM flow throught it.

Thanks in advance for your answer!

Based on this video it seems that only one VLAN can be assigned to a tenant/project..
