Hi

I have: - at home, one server A - at the hosting provider, another dedicated server B - a classic ADSL internet connection

Can I have a OpenStack environment where: - server A plays the role of controller - server B plays the role of compute (where deployed VirtualBox VM run)

Thanks in advance Verytest

Hi,

If you have appropriate networking configured, yes.

Whether it is a good idea or not depends on your needs. For example, you may be better off doing an all-in-one openstack installation on the server at the hosting provider. If you only have a small number of VMs and a single server, the performance impact of running the "controller" on the "compute node" is minimal.

Hello fifieldt

Thanks for your reply.

What do you meanly appropriate networking configuration ? Does I have to have a VPN between my home server and the hosted server, simulating the same network ?

Does the controller node have to always be accessible from the compute node ? What happens if the controller is down or inaccessible for a while (let' say 2 hours)?

Interesting point for the minimal impact you quote at the end, I did not know that !

Best regards
