Trouble with multi-node cinder and types

I am having trouble with a 2 node cinder setup.

  • Node 1: slow data drives available via iSCSI
  • Node 2: fast SSD drives available via iSCSI

I have created different storage types but the documentation for volume_driver=cinder.volume.driver.ISCSIDriver is missing so I am not sure what config options I have.

Currently both nodes are enabled and appear in cinder-manage host list. Creating block devices works on both if only one is enabled at a time.

Ideally I would like to use volume types to choose which node I create a block device on.
Can anyone help? Thanks Alex

Yes I have read that area over and over looking for clues. That setup only works if both cinder-volumes are on the same machine, it doesn't work for cinder-volumes on different nodes. Unless I have misunderstood something.

Sorry Heiko,
I am explaining myself badly. I want to be able to choose which node a new block storage is created on. There is fast storage and slow storage and I want to use them for different purposes.

I have created cinder storage "types" but I don't seem to be able to associate them with nodes.

ie Type SSD goes to node 2 and Type BULK goes to node 1

you need to create new volumes with --volume_type option check if both storge nodes are presend with cinder service-list
