I installed devstack on a machine with 4 cores and 8 GB RAM. Everything worked fined, except that I can only launch nano instances. Launching larger instances fails with a "NoValidHost" error message. As I understand it this message occurs because there no hypervisors with enough resources are available.

If I open the administration panel in horizon and click on Admin > Hypervisors it shows me

  • CPU Usage: Used 1 of 4
  • Memory Usage: Used 1GB of 7GB

The hypervisor type is QEMU. My question is: Why are not all available cores utilized? Is it possible to change these settings so that I can launch larger instances?

If you need to change the hypervisor to KVM, add this line to localrc file;

LIBVIRT_TYPE=kvm
