OpenStack uses libvirt and libvirt's documentation says: libvirt supports Hyper-V as well as ESX. Nova does support the above mentioned hypervisors. Unfortunately some components of OpenStack like ceilometer have no support for Hyper-V and ESX. What are the plans for adding support to other hypervisors in Ceilometer?

In Grizzly (when this question was originally asked) Ceilometer did not support ESX nor Hyper-V, a blueprint for Hyper-V support was actioned in the Havana release: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ceilometer/+spec/hyper-v-agent

I was not able to find a similar proposal for ESX support at this time.

Both those hypervisors are supported by OpenStack Compute (Nova).

The key to the question is which hypervisors are supported by ceilometer, as far as I can work out it doesn't support either of them at the moment.

@sgordon: thanks for clarifying it. I'm not sure what the situation for Ceilometer is.

It is interesting to know whether modifying some python files would make it portable to ESX(or Hyper-V). Is that feasible?

@Jobin: Ceilometer accepts contributions in code, like all OpenStack projects. If you're interested in picking up an existing blueprint or write a new one start from this wiki page http://wiki.openstack.org/HowToContribute
