Hello Everyone, I have Grizzly setup with quantum network Cloud(box1) Network(box2) compute(box3/4/5). My hypervisors are KVM and i have tested ubuntu/win7 and is successfully running on top of the setup.

I wanted to create windows 2012 image and tried creating a custom one. I referred link (http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-compute/admin/content/creating-a-windows-image.html) but when i boot the image using KVM command with 2012 iso for customization. it never boots up and stuck with error saying not a boot disk. ( I used the same method for win7 and it worked well)

I tried download the (http://www.cloudbase.it/ws2012/ ) ready image of 2012 to my cloud and uploaded the image to glance using below command.

 glance image-create --property \
 hypervisor_type=kvm --name "Win12" \
 --is_public=true --container-format bare --disk-format vhd  \
 < windows2012.vhd

But when i spin the instance, i got hit with the same error

*Boot Failed:Could not read the boot disk. No bootable device*

Anyone had luck with spinning a windows 2012 on grizzly ? if so, please help.

I have not worked on the already build image of windows. But i followed the steps in http://networkstatic.net/building-a-windows-image-for-openstack/ and created an windows 2008 server image whicfh i was able to add to glance and use in my Grizzly. I could not get the NIC driver. Working on it..

I have used Cloudbase image http://www.cloudbase.it/ws2012/ and it works fine. It seems like you downloaded the Hyper-V image instead of KVM image. For that, you need to download qcow2 KVM image after accepting EULA.

Once downloaded add the same to Glance using following command:

glance image-create --is-public true --min-disk 20 --name "Windows Server 2012 Std Eval" --container-format bare --disk-format qcow2 < windows_server_2012_standard_eval_kvm_20130510.qcow2

To make the NIC work, you need to add Virtio drivers for the ethernet. You can download the same from following URL: http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/
