I'm working with Swift All in One,and i used this : https://github.com/osaddon/cdmi (link text) to use cdmi. I m able to put,get and delete container and object.I am especially able to insert metadata in an object. My question is:how can I search for an object through the metadata? there is a function that allows me to do this, without the need to implement it myself?

There is nothing implemented in upstream OpenStack Swift to do metadata indexing. Several deployers have implemented this functionality, but there has not been a concerted effort to bring this functionality into the core (or, honestly, an apparent strong desire to do so).

We currently don't have the capability to filter container listings based on object metadata.

I don't know if this proposal of metadata search has been implemented.

I seriously doubt it was implemented. Check the blueprint linked, it's dated 2011 and has not been assigned, nor targeted.
