I selected a valid image and set the size to 1 gig. When I start up my instance it downloads the image but then I get a status error in the gui. This is happening when I try a Ubuntu image. Where can I see an error message log?

Can you use mysql to find the error?

Thanks for the help!

what does nova show <instanceid> return, that will give you some idea on the error. Also check the compute log available at /var/log/nova.

the log is not available at /var/log/nova and checked in /etc/nova/nova.conf and added use_syslog=true still the logs are not getting created. Am I missing something.

Are you using devstack. If yes, then use screens to check the log. goto the nova screen using the following screen -r and then goto the nova screen using CTRL+A followed by the nova screen number
