I believe this is not directly an OpenStack question. You should read the documentation for the distribution you're using as there may be different ways depending on the terminal you use. Remember that devstack is just a bash script, so whatever you use for wget or curl in your terminal should work.

Remember DevStack is picky, it tries to connect to endpoints on the IP addresses even though it is the same local machine. For that to work you should also specify a no_proxy env. variable:

$ export no_proxy=,<server_ip_address>

I do agree this is not relevant to Openstack, though asking for devstack you have export proxy internally and make devstack call as http than git, because devstack is bash and will do git call, if your fails to call git and supports only http, do necessary changes in stack file before do

export http_proxy=http://proxyhost:proxyport (or) export https_proxy=https://proxyhost:proxyport

For http proxy call do as below

git config --global http.proxy http://proxyuser:proxypwd@proxy.serve...

change proxyuser to your proxy user change proxypwd to your proxy password change to the URL of your proxy server change 8080 to the proxy port configured on your proxy server If you decide at any time to reset this proxy and work without proxy:

Command to use:

git config --global --unset http.proxy

Finally, to check the currently set proxy:

git config --global --get http.proxy

i agree with smaffulli, defining an environment variable should work.

export http_proxy=http://proxyhost:proxyport

You could always add:

to the local.conf

and then:

export http_proxy=<proxy address>
export https_proxy=<proxy address>

before you start the install.
