Hi everyone,

I am evaluating the several method to store ephemeral disks.

What i want to achieve is :

  • Host ephemeral disk on compute node to have good I/O

  • Use low cost disks (using Direct Attached Storage)

  • Minimize network traffic
  • Be able to run live migration

Taking an example my idea would be to have :

  • The VM disk locally hosted on node 1 and replicated on node 2 and 3.
  • If node 1 fail I would be able to run the VM on node 2 or 3 but if I loose node 2 or 3 there is no impact on VM hosted on node 1.

Live migration should be aware of where my VM disk is replicated.

Is there a solution to achieve this ?

Just one note, you can't have low network traffic and any sort of replication. You can achieve all that but with high network traffic. In cloud network is crucial.

I would recommend reading:

The first is to determine whether this is a good idea. It might not be, if you want "good I/O", so it's worth considering all the options.

The second is to setup your solution (which will work), using live migration.
