when I shutdown a instance ,its resource(RAM,vcpu) is also in nova resource pool rather than to use for other new instance creating . So how can I recover these resource to use again for others?

I am using Nova2013.1.1

Thank you very much! When I research the nova source code, what I find in "nova\compute\resourcetracker.py" show that only instance is vmstates.DELETED its resource will be revert. For those normal instance(not delete or error), after they are shutdown, I greatly want to use its resource for some new instance.

What should I do?

Thany you again!

Hi Fred,

At time of provisioning an Instance it claims the resource based on the flavor you have attached to it and get unclaimed only when the instance goes deleted or got errored.

Hi Fred , I think once you shutdown the instance you no need to recover the resources the virtualization layer takes care of that ,you can try provisioning more than one instances on a same physical machine. If you have limited resource than you can shutdown the instance and try provisioning new.
