unable to start the vm from the compute host

virsh start instance-xyz error: Failed to start domain instance-xyz error: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: 2020-01-20T10:18:29.457029Z qemu-system-x86_64: -drive file=/var/lib/nova/instances/731620f6-e4c1-4eb7-91d7-bb5667994f6a/disk,format=qcow2,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0,cache=none: Failed to get "write" lock Is another process using the image?

version rocky ubuntu 18.04 we migrated the vm off one host to the other and then vm got shutdown and we do not see the option to start the machine from the GUI.

any idea as how to clear the lock of the vm from the compute host

check virsh dump output virsh dumpxml instanceid > output

login to compute where VM migrated and check nova log for details. Might u have to clear locks and check directory permission.
