How to increase swift cluster size, gradually?

asked 2019-10-30 05:08:01 -0500

Hi

Is there a standard method to increase partition space gradually? It seems necessary.

Consider this example, We start our cluster with 10 * 1TB disk space on 2 servers, then, after 5 years, we expect 10PB capacity on 10,000 disks on 2,000 servers!

So if we make the rings with part_power = 20 (2^20 > 10,000 * 100) and replica_count = 3, performance overhead of replication/management of 3 million partitions will be high for 2 nodes at the beginning!

Thanks in advance

You can increase the partition power: https://docs.openstack.org/swift/late.... Although it seems that careful planning and execution is required.

I've seen that solution. But it has some caveats as pointed in the link. I asked this question to know if any seamless solution (even with Downtime) exist! Moreover, although I followed that guide, step by step to increase part_power, but finally objects turned unavailable! So I asked help [here](ht
