In the installation of compute service(or other services), there are three type of configuration for databases

Populate the nova-api and placement databases

Register the cell0 database

Create the cell1 cell

Populate the nova database

what is the difference between the above "populate", "registre" and "create" ?

Populating a database means creating tables, perhaps also filling them with initial data.

By registration, the Nova install guide means creating the mapping for cell0, i.e. determining which database connection string should be used for this cell. Cell0 doesn’t have a message queue connection string because it only contains instances that could not be scheduled. For this reason, it doesn’t require messaging.

Creating cell1 means adding cell1 data to the relevant tables in the database and mapping the cell to database and message queue connection strings.
