DevStack Setup on VirtualBox cannot ping external gateway

I am currently having an issue where I cannot ssh into instances from host machine and my instaces CAN ping one another, but cannot ping the external gateway or any outside networks (8.8.8.8 or http://google.com).

I must access instances using: sudo ip netns exec <id> ssh ubuntu@<ip> (I am using ubuntu 18.04 cloud image)

I have allowed all ICMP and TCP traffic. Looking at other proposed solutions didn't fix anything. Attempted Fixes:

  1. Added iptable for each instance
  2. Ensured public network was FLAT and External

I'm kind of lost as I've heard people are unable to access the internet from VirtualBox setup, but I have all traffic flowing through a Host-Only adapter, which is the proposed solution for that issue.

My Setup: All-in-one devstack Rocky setup using networking-odl

I am fairly certain OpenDaylight as the controller is not the issue, as my network setup mirrors many that I've seen.

I am not well versed in the world of OpenStack (college student researching), so any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

When using normal Neutron (not OpenDaylight), by default Devstack fakes the external network, and instances have no connectivity to the internet. You should check how Devtack’s ODL implementation routes external traffic.

Also share your local.conf so that knowlegeable people (not me:) can comment.
