I am trying to create a VM with a public network attached. Public network is created by following this document: https://docs.openstack.org/newton/install-guide-ubuntu/launch-instance-networks-provider.html (https://docs.openstack.org/newton/ins...)

Now when I try to launch VM with this network on the dashboard, I am recieving the following error:

Failed to perform requested operation on instance "VM", the instance has an error status: Please try again later [Error: Exceeded maximum number of retries. Exhausted all hosts available for retrying build failures for instance

Not able to understand whats the issue. I have enough RAM, CPU and storage to accomodate this VM. Can someone please guide me as to understand this error and how to resolve it.?

Can you check the quotos for the Project were you are trying to create the VM.Also just try to create a volume alone and see whether cinder is working or not

@Deepa, I am able to create volume with 0 issues. And in the overview summary, I can see limit is not exceeded.

Try looking at neutron and nova-conductor logs for any other error messages (at time of instance creation)

Deepa gravatar imageDeepa ( 2019-02-22 02:33:39 -0600 )edit

Also check the nova-compute log file on the compute node where the instance was scheduled (I think you only have one compute node, but if you have several, find that node by running openstack server show as admin.

I resolved this issue. What my major issue was linux bridge was not installed. Once this is configured properly, I was able to create floating IP's as well as create VMs with this floating IP. Thanks everyone for helping me out.

I am seeing the same error. Lets pretend I am a noob, how do you install a linux bridge? I am attempting to get PackStack working. Clean install of Centos. Also seeing in the nova-compute.log: libvirtError: invalid argument: could not find capabilities for domaintype=kvm
