Compute with image locally

asked 2019-02-05 12:37:13 -0500

In my currently solution I already have the images downloaded in the compute node, but it's not an image linked with glance, it's only the qcow2 from each image in a specific folder. I'd like to ask if there is somehow to link this local image with an existing image in my controller, to not be necessary to download images during a VM provisioning.

It doesn't work this way. Your image is not necessarily located on the controller; Glance has several possible image stores like Swift or Ceph, even http. To access a Swift or Ceph object, or an image located on a web server, you have to download it - which is exactly what Nova does.

However, once a qcow2 image has been copied to the compute node, the local copy will be used when other instances are launched from the same image.
