Is it possible to add multiple servers and create a private cloud using OpenStack? Will OpenStack consolidate as 1 server or multiple servers? So, in the future, if we are short of resources, then we can add 1 more server to the cloud and make resources available to present VM's that we had created.

You can deploy OpenStack on a single server. The largest OpenStack installations have thousands of servers. You can add or remove servers to a cloud.

I don’t understand what you want to say by “make resources available to present VM’s”. A VM runs inside a server and is not spread over several servers. You may, however, add storage to a VM that resides on one or more servers outside of the VM’s host.

Thanks for your response.

I have 3 dedicated servers, each of 32GB RAM. Will OpenStack consolidate as 1 server of 96GB? I will be running 10 VM's and if I am running out of RAM, can I add 1 more server of 64GB RAM and can I use available RAM of the new server to the old VM's?

OpenStack can’t create one big server out of three. When you run out of RAM or other resources, you can add a server and move some of your VMs to the new server. This is called migration, and can be done while the VM is running, in which case it’s called live migration.
