I have a devstack installed, an instance with Ubuntu cloud image, and a lubuntu GUI installed in it.

In this way, I has been able to see the lubuntu GUI in the instance console in dashboard and access the instace's terminal by SSH.

I'm trying to use TightVNC to see the instance's GUI in other computer in the local network. I could do this once, but after this I couldn't make it work again, it opens a window, but it keep with a gray background.

I tried the same technique in the server who devstack is installed (with lubuntu GUI too), and I can access from others computer normally.

I'm thinking there is something on openstack blocking the protocol.

In a nutshell, what I did was:

  1. It was configured the Security group by dashboard and terminal, adding the rule "ALL TCP", "ALL UDP" both to ingress and egress with "Remote" in CIDR. (I don't know much how do them work);
  2. It was installed in the instance the tightvncserver. And use the command "tightvncserver :1 -geometry 800x600 -depth 8" to share the GUI (I tried -depth 8, -depth 24, 16, 32,... no one worked);
  3. It was installed the xtightvncviewer in the other computer and used the coomand "xtightvncviewer" to call the instance's GUI.
  4. The result: (image description) (link text)

There's something wrong, but I can't find what. (The firewalls are disabled)

Thanks for your help

You get a popup window on the instance’s Desktop. To me, this looks like VNC is working, and the problem is the configuration of VNC and/or X on the server. In other words, not an OpenStack problem.

I hope so. But I can see the server's desktop, why could not I see the instance's desktop??

Probably the server is correctly configured, and the instance is not.
