Hello all, i have installed openstack horizon dashboard and i create an instance from it. Everything is all right and the status of the instance is Running and Active, but when i try to see the log or console of the instance - no result on log and "Loading..." on Console. When i try to ping the instance ip - "Destination Host Not Reachable" . Any ideas?

Which installation distro are you using? Single node (--allinone, DevStack?), RDO Multi-Node?

As far as the VNC console is concerned, make sure your Nova configuration files are correct, and you have the appropriate VNC ports open on the controller and compute node firewalls. Post your 'nova.conf' file here. We can't troubleshoot unless we know how your nova and networking is configured.

I've used http://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/content/ch_obtaining_images.html#ubuntu-images this link and downloaded - precise-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img, but again the same problem...

In order to access the console you have to configure the instance image to support output to the console file that Nova creates. By default the image will not write to the console (see example CentOS page): http://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/content/centos-image.html (see Configure Console).

dtaylor, I guess as you stated above, tomhafner's problem might be more a firewall and network issue, the VNC port on the controller and compute nodes should be open. The precise cloud image is configured properly. @ tomhafner: what happens if you stop the firewall? does the console work?
