Is it possible to run VMs on the controller node or can I only run them on compute nodes?

In my setup I have a high performance controller node, but my compute nodes aren't very powerful, so I can't switch their tasks. However I have a VM which needs many resources and I would like to know if it is possible to run it in the cloud on the controller?

Sure you can, just install the openstack-nova-compute package and apply all the config settings of nova/neutron on the controller aswell. With devstack everything is ran on one node aswell. Wouldn't recommend this setup in a production environment though.

Thank you for your answer. It's just an environment for testing. It will never get productive.
