I'm trying to install openstack using the install guide version 15.0.0 When I want to install the compute note and run the apt install nova-compute command I get the following error:

ERROR: could not access cell mapping database - has api db been created?

I don't know how to handle this problem, but the network configuration might be the cause.

Each computer has two network interfaces as described in the guide, but I have to use the "provider network" to get access to the Internet and want to use the "management network" only for management. So I did the configuration with the management interface IP. I think during the download using the provider interface the node tries to connect to the DB via the wrong interface.

Has someone experienced the same?

Thanks for your help

Just keep going with the install. The compute node placement stuff gets setup further down the guide.

When I run openstack hypervisor list I get an error that the server was not found (error 503). Does that correlate? Running su -s /bin/sh -c "nova-manage cell_v2 discover_hosts --verbose" nova shows the right cell mappings, but the other steps doesn't work.

It's normal to get the cell error you mentioned above when installing the nova compute package. Look elsewhere for the cause of the 503 error.

Thanks for your response! I performed a second installation and ignored the error. I run openstack hypervisor list but the output was empty. I saw other posts where the list was empty, but I didn't get output. Do you have any ideas?
