Exploring a possibility of creating a hybrid worker node on which K8 and openstack controllers (installed in different servers) can create POD and VM, this creating a hybrid environment where apps deployed in PODs and VMS can work together..

Does containerized Kolla openstack support Calico networking?

Hi Hai,

Kolla is composed by various deliverables:

  • kolla (Docker images)
  • kolla-ansible (Ansible roles to deploy OpenStack)
  • kolla-kubernetes (K8s/helm charts to deploy OpenStack)

The answer for "Is calico integrated with kolla?" is No.

Kolla currently does not build any calico Docker image.

The answer for "Is calico integrated with kolla-kubernetes?" is yes.

Kolla-kubernetes support calico/canal CNI for kubernetes networking, see deployment guide:

The answer for "Is callico integrated with kolla-ansible?" is no.

Currently kolla-ansible does not support calico for networking at this moment However kolla-ansible is easy to configure to use your own implementations.

Assuming you have a calico implementation active and using kolla-ansible for OpenStack deployment:

*There is a change under review to implement calico, however is been inactive for a long time.
