Problem launching Trove Guest Instance

I followed this to install Trove in my controller node. The verification step worked as expected :

$ trove list
+----+------+-----------+-------------------+--------+-----------+------+
| id | name | datastore | datastore_version | status | flavor_id | size |
+----+------+-----------+-------------------+--------+-----------+------+
+----+------+-----------+-------------------+--------+-----------+------+

Then I created a Trove Guest Image using diskimage-builder :

disk-image-create -a amd64 -o ubuntu_trove ubuntu vm cloud-init-datasources ubuntu-guest ubuntu-mysql

The image ubuntu_trove.qcow2 builds up all right. The image is then uploaded to glance . Then an appropriate datastore is created and updated to use the new image, as suggested here. After this, a new flavor for database instance is created and subsequently a new database instance is created, as suggested here.

After doing the above steps, when I run trove list, the output shows the instance to be in BUILD state for a while and after sometime it goes to ERROR state. Although, in the Instances list, the newly launched database instance shows as running. What might be wrong here ?

It would help to figure out what is going on if we can see some things ...

  1. I assume that the instances list is Nova list. Yes, running there makes sense.
  2. What do you see in taskmanager log
  3. if you built the image properly, you should be able to create a security group which allows port 22 (ssh) into the instance, and then ssh into the instance and look at the guestagent log

I don't recognize the element ubuntu_trove, is this something you created? Is your environment devstack based or a custom openstack install?

I notice that you asked the same question on IRC, please stick around for a while if you are looking for answers on IRC, it is not an Instant Reply Channel.

We have enabled SSH in security group and logged into the instance using SSH. But we do not find any guestagent log inside it. Which DIB element is needed to install trove-guestagent in the image ?

ubuntu_trove is the name of the qcow2 file that is created as the output of the command.
