hi we are trying to deploy ceph service through kolla ansible when using parted command we get the following error given below

command: parted /dev/sdb -s -- mklabel gpt mkpart KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP 1 -1
error:Error: Partition(s) 3 on /dev/sdb have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernel of the change, probably because it/they are in use. As a result, the old partition(s) will remain in use. You should reboot now before making further changes.

please help. Also it does not work with machine with single partition it says partition already in use. Is there a requirement in ceph that seperate harddrive is to use ??

Partitions to use as ceph devices should be unused.

First need to unmount each partition to be used (sdb as example):

umount /dev/sdb

Then delete all partitions present in the disk (will delete all the data), example with two partitions:

parted /dev/sdb rm 1
parted /dev/sdb rm 2

Finally, label the disk:

parted /dev/sdb -s -- mklabel gpt mkpart KOLLA_CEPH_OSD_BOOTSTRAP 1 -1
