How can I use heat engine and heat template for orchestration on AWS? Do I need to do any transformations before running heat template on AWS? Can a heat template run on AWS through heat engine or it need to be converted to cfn ? Does multi cloud on heat engine configuration means different flavors of open stack or AWS also?

Thanks Ashutosh

Short answer: you can't.

Heat is a front-end for OpenStack. It does have a plugin architecture for both resource types and API clients, so in theory you could write your own plugins and use them with AWS, and I believe there may even be closed-source products that have done this, but it would be a large amount of work. There is no multi-cloud feature in Heat (only multi-region at present), but even if/when that arrives it will be only for OpenStack clouds.

Heat does have fairly good support for the CloudFormation template format, and has compatibility plugins for a subset of CloudFormation resource types, so it _may_ be possible to write a CloudFormation template that will work on both CloudFormation and Heat. However, you will obviously be limited to the subset of features that are supported by both.
